Recently judged one of Australia’s best Pet Nats by the Young Guns of Wine tasting panel. Lightly cloudy sparkling wine with fermentation completed in bottle so yeast remains. Pinot noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay blend with bright acidity and a juicy fruit palate.

Venom was accidentally created in 2020 during vintage when the Covid 19 pandemic response began and everyone was in a bit of a panic about if we would be able to finish vintage or not. I had purchased beautiful Chardonnay fruit that was destined to be in the Emerge traditional sparkling. The volume was low (due to low crop yields), it was the end of the day, Covid cases were rising and I had tickets to see a band that night. My overloaded vintage brain decided to throw the Chardonnay fruit in the emptied press on top of a few Pinot noir skins thinking it would grab a little colour but I was fine with a pink sparkling. Hmmm, the juice came out purple, like Shiraz.

Obviously it wasn’t going to become premium bubbles anymore but it still tasted amazing so after a quick emotional freak out, a new plan arose and here we are. I always thought Venom would be a great name for some bright pink fizz, and it’s kind of a nod to Britney Spears Toxic as well (cause who doesn’t love a bit of Britney on the dance floor).
