Going like Elsie 2022 Pinot noir

$40.00

The name comes from the dramatic crescendo line in the title song of movie/musical Cabaret with the phenomenal Liza Minelli (lyrics at the end). This is a movie that brings back fond memories of my grandmother who was certainly a character who lived large. She would babysit us as kids in a sexy 60’s style catsuit sherry in hand, giving us packets of chips and lime ice cream spiders the second our parents left, and showing us many questionable, age inappropriate movies like Gallipoli, The Towering Inferno, Jaws, Rocky Horror show, and of course Cabaret. I was clearly too young to understand the whole Nazi storyline, but always got lost in the singing and dancing (and semi-goth vibes Minnelli was rocking).

Going like Elsie 2022 is five clones of Pinot noir from a single vineyard in the Moorabool Valley, 25% whole bunch, 20% new oak, and so delicious.

Cabaret (part lyrics)

I used to have this girlfriend known as Elsie

With whom I shared four sordid rooms in Chelsea

She wasn’t what you’d call a blushing flower

As a matter of fact she rented by the hour.

The day she died the neighbours came to snicker

well, that’s what comes from too much pills and liquor

But when I saw her laid out like a queen

She was the happiest corpse I’d ever seen.

I think of Elsie to this very day

I remember how she’d turn to me and say

“What good is sitting all alone in your room?

Come hear the music play

Life is a Cabaret old chum

Come to the cabaret”

And as for me? Ha! And as for me…

I made my mind up back in Chelsea

When I goooooooooooooooooo

I’m going like Elsie
